Where are all of your clients?

Many people who run their own errand, concierge, or personal assistant companies have had to close up shop.  Their well of clients has dried up and they have had to move on.  What about those that have continued to stay in business, even in this economy?  I think that many of them have seen a decrease in their well, but instead of watching that well waiting for it to continue to fill up, they have gone looking for other wells out there.

You can’t rely on that one client to get you through.  You need to go out looking for clients.  You may say “I have gone looking for clients and I can’t find any”.  Are you sure you are looking in the right direction?  Have you mainly been targeting seniors?  What about adding bachelors or dual income families to your list of target markets?  Are you only servicing one or two cities?  Can you expand to a greater area?  By lining up a list of independent contractors in surrounding areas, you widen the opportunity to fill your well.

Have you been keeping up on the news in your local service area?  Have there been any new trends going on?  Something that you can turn into a new service or something that allows you to spotlight a particular service you currently offer?  Are you looking at community calendars to see what events are coming up that you can attend so that you can reach out to others?  Now is the time to do so.

Doing all of these activities can help you fill your well once more.  So, where will you find your clients next?
